I’ve been sort of following the discussion between Ta-Nehisi Coates and Jeff Goldberg at the Atlantic online about having a gun, and carrying it, and what that does in the rest of your life. (And can I pause for a moment and thank the world for giving us an intelligent discussion without all the shocks and explosions and stupid shorthand bait? Faith in humans and all that.)

So, there’s a new thing up online from James Fallows, considering what Kant would say in response to St. Augustine.

Stop and look at the article, even if you know what you think already, just to see a respectful conversation with people who have actually thought things through, with the help and guidance of people who put an emphasis on thinking things through. And remember. It can be done. People can talk to each other, and come to solutions. But maybe they have to listen.
